The tech world is abuzz about the upcoming Google Pixel 10, but let's cut to the chase. I couldn't care less about the fancy camera rumors or the alleged color schemes. My focus is squarely on one thing - the pitiful charging speed of the Pixel 9 series.
Yeah, sorry Google, but it's high time you sorted this out. The base Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro charge at a pathetic 27W, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL manages a slightly better 37W. In today's world, these speeds are a joke.
So, why the heck is charging speed such a big deal? Well, until we develop superpowered batteries that last multiple days on a single charge, fast charging is essential. And let's be real, Google's been slacking in this department for far too long.
Stepping Back In Time
It's absurd how Google has been letting us down with the charging speeds of their flagship phones in recent years. The Pixel 6 maxed out at 21W, which isn't a massive leap from the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro's 27W. Three years and no significant progress? That's just disgraceful.
Even Samsung, a brand I've thrown shade at for the S25's 25W charging speed, manages to impress with the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra's 45W fast charging. That's a huge difference compared to the Pixel 9 Pro XL's 37W.
It's mind-boggling how these giant brands keep getting away with such abysmal charging specs. We shower them with praise, slap awards on them, and yet they continue to disappoint us.
Point and Shoot, or Fast Charge?
Truth be told, I don't care about the camera setup as much as I do about the charging speed anymore. The Pixel family's already got decent photography skills and tends to recycle lenses anyway. But we still get a fantastic photography experience.

If the Pixel 10 maintains the same charging speeds as its predecessor, it'll be a monumental disappointment. There are rumors swirling that some models might support up to 45W charging, but if the base model is capped at a measly 30W, it'll be a massive letdown.
If Google raises the price of the Pixel 10 Pro XL by a whopping $100 but only offers 37W or 40W charging, it'll be a huge marketing blunder. Will people still bite? I seriously doubt it.
On the flip side, if Google pulls a rabbit out of its hat and unveils 50W to 60W fast charging, that $100 price hike might just be worth it for many, including yours truly.
