Access to Kobo eBooks Now Available on NetGalley Platform

In a significant leap forward for digital reading, Rakuten Kobo has introduced the "Send to Kobo" service, allowing seamless integration with NetGalley. This partnership, announced in April 2025, went live in late May.

NetGalley, a specialist in Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) e-book titles, has collaborated with Kobo to offer members the ease of sending NetGalley ePub files directly to their Kobo eReaders or the Kobo reading app on Android or iOS devices. This integration eliminates the need for manual sideloading, offering greater convenience and flexibility to readers.

The integration works as follows: NetGalley members link their Kobo account to their NetGalley profile by entering their Kobo login credentials within the NetGalley platform. Once linked, members can send any eligible NetGalley e-book directly to their Kobo device or app from within NetGalley. The ePub files are protected with Kobo's proprietary Digital Rights Management (DRM), ensuring secure distribution and use of these pre-release digital review copies.

By sending e-books directly to Kobo devices or apps, readers can benefit from Kobo's reading features such as customization, syncing across devices, and a smooth, integrated reading experience. Publishers and NetGalley clients can bulk-enable the "Send to Kobo" option for their digital review copies, allowing streamlined access for many users at once.

Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo, stated, "This integration reflects our dedication to a more open approach to digital reading, where readers have more control over the way they experience books." He added, "We're excited to see how this integration enhances the way readers discover and engage with new books, and we're committed to expanding format support as we move forward."

This development represents a commitment to offering users a more user-friendly approach to digital reading, allowing reviewers and readers greater control over how they access and read new books on Kobo platforms. Future enhancements, such as PDF support, are expected to be introduced later in the year.

  1. Digital reading has been elevated with the introduction of the "Send to Kobo" service, allowing seamless transfer of NetGalley ARC e-books to Kobo eReaders or Kobo reading apps, revolutionizing the lifestyle of readers.
  2. The partnership between NetGalley and Kobo involves sending ePub files directly to Kobo devices or apps, leveraging technology to provide readers with a smooth, integrated reading experience, including customization and syncing across devices.
  3. With the arrival of the "Send to Kobo" service, reading apps and e-readers become an essential component of entertainment, promising greater convenience, flexibility, and control over digital reading, as envisioned by Rakuten Kobo, ensuring a more enjoyable and open approach to the reading experience.
