Residents of Saxony are encouraged to participate in a nationwide mobile network measurement week. Economics Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) appealed for citizen involvement, emphasizing the significance of accurate mobile network coverage data, particularly in rural areas and regions with challenging topography. The event runs from October 31st to November 6th.

Panter highlighted Saxony's current high coverage rates, with 98.80% for the 4G/LTE network and 96.06% for the 5G network. The mobile network measurement week aims to gather real-life user experiences to contextualize the network coverage. Panter urges residents to check their mobile network coverage during their daily activities, using the holiday, commute to work, or shopping trips for the purpose.

During the measurement week, citizens can utilize an app from the Federal Network Agency for Broadband Measurement to record the mobile network coverage in their area. The collected data will provide valuable insights to improve mobile network coverage quality. The data will be anonymized and added to the "Gigabit-Grundbuch" of the Federal Government's dead zone map, guiding improvements for the federal government and mobile network operators.

Improving mobile network coverage, especially in rural regions and challenging topography areas like Saxony, requires strategies such as infrastructure investments, technology advancements, collaboration, regulatory support, and alternative technologies. By addressing these challenges and opportunities, better mobile network coverage can be attained.
