Anticipation build-up for over three months regarding Monster Hunter Wilds modifications; a statement that might not be overstated, indicating a potential triumphant return to the game.

Anticipation for the Monster Hunter Wilds updates has spanned several months, and, frankly, I believe we've returned to form with these alterations.

In a recent update for Monster Hunter Wilds, patch 1.021.00.00, the Lance and Great Sword have received significant balance changes aimed at improving their performance and playstyles.

Lance Changes

The Lance has been buffed across the board to close the power gap with other weapons. The counterattack moves, such as Retribution Thrust and Payback Thrust, have received the largest buffs, making the Lance's central guard and counter mechanics much stronger. Additionally, elemental damage values for Lance weapons have been improved, addressing the issue where raw damage Lance outperformed elemental variants.

Great Sword Changes

Adjustments have been made to make it easier to chain into the Tackle move from combos like Strong Wide Slash to True Charged Slash, improving combo fluidity. The patch also introduces an easier way to chain attacks, likely enhancing the general usability of the Great Sword’s offensive options. There have been upward adjustments to overall damage output, aiming to help the Great Sword be more competitive and versatile in combat.

These changes aim to enhance the Lance’s defensive and counterattack identity while allowing Great Sword users to enjoy smoother and more effective aggressive play. Both weapons have received buffs addressing their previous weaknesses and expanding viable playstyle strategies.

The update also includes a significant endgame update, with the introduction of 9-star monsters and randomized charms. Changes have been made to the animation speed and hitbox size for several Lance attacks. Insect glaive, light and heavy bowgun, and dual blades have also received significant changes in this patch.

Early testing suggests the gap in power between the Lance and other weapons has closed significantly. Comfort and consistency have been the focus of changes for Insect glaive, light and heavy bowgun, and dual blades, with moderate damage boosts to some attacks. Hunting horns' hilt stab now has added hyper armor, and an improved offset attack for switch axe has been added. The nerf for the sword and shield's counter slash has been reverted in this patch.

Monster Hunter Wilds patch 1.021.00.00 is now live on all platforms. Better enhanced phial damage for charge blade has also been implemented in this update, not mentioned in the scope of this article. The update is a positive step towards balancing the game, and players can look forward to improved gameplay experiences with their favourite weapons.
