Apogee Studio's Audio Quality Exemplified by Dante's Innovation
Dante Integration Enhances Apogee Studio's Immersive Audio Experience
Bob Clearmountain, a legendary figure in the AV industry, has turned to Dante to expand the listening options at his studio, Apogee Studio, located in Santa Monica. Known for hosting legendary recording artists and up-and-coming acts, Apogee Studio now offers a unique audio experience thanks to Dante integration.
The studio's audio system is based on Apogee's Symphony Mk II Special Edition, a multi-channel audio interface featuring Apogee's flagship AD/DA conversion, modular I/O, touchscreen display, and optional microphone preamps. The Symphony Mk II in Apogee Studio is equipped with an optional Dante hardware module, enabling seamless, low-latency digital audio networking over Ethernet.
This integration allows audio signals to be transmitted across multiple devices on a Dante-enabled network, facilitating flexible routing and expansion of audio channels in real time. The Dante network setup was considered painless by Bob Clearmountain, as it operates independently without any other stuff on the router.
Through Dante, Apogee Studio can connect with other Dante-compatible devices, such as mixers, stage boxes, and digital processors, without the need for traditional analog cabling. This improves system scalability and reduces setup complexity, leading to clearer and more immersive sound delivery to the audience.
The Dante network transmits the audio via a dedicated network to the remote rooms. In each of the three other rooms, people can monitor the live immersive audio stream using the Dante Virtual Soundcard. This software application turns a PC or Mac into a Dante-enabled device, allowing them to hear the audio stream exactly as it is heard through the Atmos speakers in the main studio.
The Symphony Mk II supports three connectivity modules, including Thunderbolt, Pro Tools + Dante, and Waves SoundGrid. This versatility allows the studio to adapt to various production needs, ensuring high-quality, reliable audio distribution regardless of location.
Clearmountain aims to tie all the rooms together, enabling a live, immersive mix in the main studio with the old Neve 8068 console and allowing people to listen to it in other rooms. This approach enhances the audience experience by ensuring high-quality, reliable audio distribution in live or studio environments, supporting complex setups with minimal latency and maintaining pristine sound fidelity.
Apogee Studio's Dante integration is a significant step forward in the realm of audio production, offering enhanced audio network interoperability, streamlined signal routing, and improved audio quality, all of which contribute to a richer, more engaging listening experience for the audience.
