Apple Intends to Enhance Vision Pro with New Features for Boosted Sales, According to Reports

The highly anticipated update for the Apple Vision Pro VR headset, scheduled for release later in 2025, is set to bring two significant improvements: a faster M4 chip and a redesigned, more comfortable head strap.

The M4 chip, an upgrade from the previous M1, promises enhanced CPU cores, increased RAM capacity, improved speed, and a boost in neural engine cores. This upgrade aims to deliver better performance and AI functionality through Apple Intelligence.

The new head strap has been designed to address criticisms of the original Vision Pro's weight and comfort during extended use. Although the headset's overall weight may not decrease significantly, the redesign aims to better distribute weight and increase wearability, making it more comfortable for users.

Since its launch, the Vision Pro has faced challenges in sales performance, largely due to its high price tag and niche appeal. The performance boost and comfort improvements could make the headset more appealing to existing and potential users, particularly professionals and enthusiasts who value cutting-edge specs and longer wear sessions. However, without a significant price adjustment or new models to reach wider audiences, these iterative enhancements alone may have limited impact on substantially increasing sales volume.

In addition to these improvements, Apple Intelligence, which was launched with the iPhone 17, is expected to be fully released later this year. This AI technology can anonymize data to ensure user privacy, and it has already been integrated with the Writing Tools interface, Genmojis, and the Image Playground app. Apple Intelligence will also be introduced to the Vision Pro in the visionOS 2.4 software update.

Furthermore, reports suggest that developers may start working with the new features within the week, and Apple is rumoured to be working on another Vision Pro headset. Siri, too, has received an upgrade with Apple Intelligence, allowing it to understand images and documents, summarize phone notifications, and tap into the power of ChatGPT. Apple Intelligence can also make use of the cloud for processing requests through Private Cloud Compute.

As we look forward to the release of the updated Vision Pro, it's clear that Apple is committed to refining and enhancing its VR headset to provide a better user experience and address criticisms. Whether these updates will be enough to significantly boost sales remains to be seen.
