Arx Robotics forms an alliance with Renk to bolster tech collaborations

In a groundbreaking move, ARX Robotics and Renk Group have announced a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing autonomous defense mobility, particularly in the field of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The collaboration, which focuses on the industrialization and internationalization of software-defined defense technology, leverages ARX Robotics’ advanced software and artificial intelligence expertise and Renk’s industrial strength in high-performance mobility solutions.

The partnership centers on integrating ARX’s Mithra OS with Renk’s mobility platforms, digitalizing both legacy and next-generation military vehicles to transform conventional vehicles into intelligent, connected platforms capable of autonomous operations. ARX Robotics will serve as Renk’s “Software-Defined Defence” partner, driving digital transformation across Renk’s product lines, embedding advanced autonomy, system interconnectivity, and real-time data processing into defense vehicles.

The collaboration aims to scale UGV production to meet growing defense demands, with a focus on reliability, robustness, and rapid deployment in contested environments. The partnership explicitly targets international growth, with Renk providing established market access and production capabilities to support ARX’s expansion into new regions. While specific countries are not named, the emphasis on “global reach” suggests a strategy to penetrate both existing NATO markets and emerging defense sectors.

Renk’s recent follow-on order from Latvia for transmissions used in the AJAX armored fighting vehicle platform demonstrates the company’s strong position within NATO countries, which is likely a springboard for introducing next-generation UGVs and autonomous technologies to allied militaries. The technologies developed are not limited to ground vehicles, as ARX Robotics has already demonstrated integrated aerial-ground systems for reconnaissance and strike, indicating that the partnership may also explore cross-domain, networked autonomous solutions for future multi-domain operations.

The partnership is developing systems that enable UGVs to operate autonomously or with minimal human oversight, focusing on reconnaissance, logistics, and direct engagement roles. ARX’s recent demonstrations, including the deployment of loitering munitions and mobile communication systems under simulated combat conditions, highlight a push toward real-time, connected battlefield ecosystems where UGVs and drones work in synergy. The partnership also aims to provide armed forces with improved real-time situational awareness.

The Mithra OS operating system enables the software-based transformation of existing vehicles into networked, autonomous systems. The partnership aims to offer armed forces greater operational efficiency and to accelerate international expansion of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The Arx Robotic Framework, a combination of modular software and scalable hardware, aims to play a key role in shaping the digital transformation of land forces.

Founded in 2022 by former Bundeswehr officers Marc Wietfeld, Maximilian Wied, and Stefan Roebel, Arx Robotics develops AI-supported unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and the world’s first independent AI operating system for existing vehicles. Alexander Sagel, CEO of the Renk Group, highlights the combination of Renk’s mobility expertise with Arx Robotics' robotics and software capabilities. Marc Wietfeld, CEO and co-founder of Arx Robotics, states that defense companies are at an inflection point where software, automation, and system connectivity will redefine military capabilities.

The partnership aims to develop new platforms for autonomous defense technology and to adapt to regional requirements in various regions such as the USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, India, and the Middle East. The partnership with Renk will enable Arx Robotics to unlock new opportunities for scale and global reach.
