Audemars Piguet Unveils Final RD Series Masterpiece: Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin Flying Tourbillon Chronograph RD#5

Audemars Piguet has launched the Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph RD#5, the final instalment in the RD series. This timepiece combines innovative materials and a groundbreaking movement, priced at CHF 260,000 (~$325,930).

The RD#5 is crafted in a 39mm case with a thickness of 8.1mm, featuring a combination of titanium and Audemars Piguet's proprietary Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG) for the case and bracelet. This unique material blend offers exceptional durability and scratch resistance.

At the heart of the watch lies the new in-house Calibre 8100 movement. This mechanism introduces an instantaneous minute jump, with the minute counter advancing in a single snap. The chronograph's pusher travel is reduced to just 0.3mm, thanks to a rack-and-pinion reset mechanism, requiring only around 300g of activation force. The Calibre 8100 also incorporates a flying tourbillon to ensure accurate timekeeping.

The RD#5 is a tribute to the iconic Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin, marking the 5th and final watch in the RD series. Previous models in the series have pushed the boundaries of watchmaking, including a 6.3mm automatic perpetual calendar and a Code 11.59 with 23 complications.

Limited to just 150 pieces, the Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph RD#5 embodies Audemars Piguet's commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. With its unique materials, groundbreaking movement, and exclusive production run, this timepiece is a testament to the brand's audacious approach to watchmaking.
