Audi Unveils Concept for Electric Sports Car at Munich Exhibition, Positioning it Between TT and R8 Models
Audi is set to make a significant move in the electric vehicle market with the unveiling of a new electric sports car concept at the Munich Motor Show in early September 2025. The car, described as "not a TT, not an R8, but something in between," aims to be a highly emotional, identity-defining coupe for Audi's electric era.
CEO Gernot Döllner has referred to this project as the "TT Moment 2.0," signaling its importance as a successor in spirit if not in name. The new electric sports car is expected to fill the gap left by the discontinued TT and R8 models, both of which ended production by early 2024.
The initial unveiling will be a concept car, but Audi has confirmed that the vehicle will go into production and reach showrooms roughly two years after the concept reveal. The car will be fully electric, reflecting Audi’s transition from internal combustion engines to EVs. It will not have a traditional front- or mid-engine layout typical of past sports cars but instead will be an EV with a distinct design.
The new Audi electric sports car is expected to share the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture utilized by Volkswagen Group, which underpins other vehicles including the upcoming Porsche 718 EV and the Audi Q6 e-tron SUV. However, the development of the Audi sports car may be influenced by the challenges faced by the Porsche 718 EV project.
Audi hopes to rekindle interest and update its design and product direction with the new electric sports car. The company is facing difficult times and needs to "get back on track now," according to CEO Gernot Döllner. The Audi electric sports car, as a halo product, is designed to play a central role in the company's efforts to regain footing within industry-wide electrification.
The new electric sports car is intended to serve as a halo product for the brand, positioning it between the TT and R8. It is expected to deliver greater performance than the outgoing TT. The upcoming sports EV is designed to fill the role currently held by the RS 6 Avant.
Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the unveiling of this exciting new concept at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025.
The upcoming electric sports car from Audi, referred to as the "TT Moment 2.0" by CEO Gernot Döllner, is aimed to bridge the gap between discontinued models like the TT and R8, providing a halo product with improved performance, sitting between the TT and the RS 6 Avant in terms of performance. Despite using the PPE architecture shared with other vehicles, its development might be influenced by challenges faced by the Porsche 718 EV project. This new concept, set to be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025, is a significant move in Audi's transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles within the transportation industry, and a critical step in the company's attempt to regain its competitive edge in the financial and lifestyle sectors, especially in the burgeoning electric-vehicles market, and the automotive technology realm.
