Audio equipment brand TASCAM selected by a Pennsylvania courthouse to enhance audio quality
In April 2024, the First Judicial District of Philadelphia, home to the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County and the Philadelphia Municipal Court, underwent an audio upgrade. Andre Houser, an experienced audio engineer with a background in pro audio and major national events, was contracted to design and deploy the microphone setup.
The centrepiece of this upgrade was the TASCAM TM-95GN microphones, gooseneck condenser microphones designed for clear and reliable speech capture. These microphones are now a common sight in the district's 65 courtrooms, with each room equipped with six microphones: one for the judge, one for the witness, one for the prosecutor, one for the defendant, and two for the jury booth.
The TASCAM TM-95GN microphones have been performing exceptionally well in the district. Their directional condenser design focuses on the speaker's voice while minimizing background noise and ambient sound, ensuring clear court recordings and live audio capture. The microphones' flexible gooseneck allows for precise positioning, and they are often mounted on desks or podiums, enabling hands-free usage.
The microphones' overall sound quality is excellent, and they have shown excellent reliability. The On/Off switch on the microphone's base allows for cleaner recordings and reduces feedback by enabling one to disable any unused mics. Judges also appreciate the ability to switch the mic off for sidebar conversations.
The TASCAM TM-95GN microphones come with an XLR cable and are being used with phantom power supplied by an Alfatron matrix mixer. The court system in the First Judicial District of Philadelphia has received numerous compliments for the performance of the TASCAM TM-95GN microphones.
The base of the TASCAM TM-95GN microphones is heavy and solidly weighted, ensuring optimal positioning. The microphones also feature a windscreen that minimizes pops, and their gooseneck adjusts easily for ideal microphone placement.
Since the installation, the First Judicial District of Philadelphia has exclusively used TASCAM TM-95GN microphones. The benefits of using these microphones include improved audio clarity for official court records and live sound reinforcement, reduced background noise interference, durability that withstands the demands of daily judicial use, and easy adjustment and positioning to accommodate multiple speakers or layouts.
In conclusion, the TASCAM TM-95GN microphones have significantly improved the audio quality in the First Judicial District of Philadelphia's courts, providing a more efficient and effective courtroom experience for all parties involved.
