Australian Public Sector Cybersecurity Gap Widens

A recent survey reveals a concerning gap in Australian public sector cybersecurity. Only 18% of respondents feel equipped to anticipate new threats, while 58% struggle to keep pace with rapidly evolving security issues.

The Trellix cybersecurity report highlights alarming figures. It takes an average of 19.13 hours to respond to significant attacks, indicating a delay in response. Public sector organisations face a staggering 49.73 incidents daily, underscoring the constant threat landscape.

Cybersecurity professionals express dissatisfaction with current tools and models, with 41% acknowledging blind spots in their protection. Luke Power, Managing Director, ANZ at Trellix, stresses the need to advance technologies to stay ahead of evolving threats.

Trellix recommends moving beyond siloed security models and adopting extended detection and response (XDR) technology. Despite increased investment in cybersecurity by 61% of respondents over the last year, the public sector must improve readiness to protect citizens effectively.
