Blue Ridge Power Cuts 500+ Jobs; Vermont to Back Plug-in Solar
Blue Ridge Power has announced significant job cuts in North Carolina, impacting over 500 positions. Meanwhile, Vermont is set to introduce plug-in solar legislation, following Utah's lead. New Yorkers have shown strong support for NYPA's plan to build 15 GW of public renewable energy by 2030.
In a recent development, Blue Ridge Power has initiated mass layoffs, affecting more than 500 jobs in North Carolina. This news comes as Vermont prepares to introduce legislation supporting plug-in solar power, mirroring Utah's approach. The move has been welcomed by residents, with a majority backing NYPA's plan to generate 15 GW of public renewable energy by 2030.
In the energy storage sector, growth has been robust. The utility-scale segment expanded by 63% year-on-year in Q2, adding 4.9 GW. Residential storage also saw a significant increase, growing by 132% in the same quarter and adding 608 MW. Qcells, a major player in the industry, has also received positive news with the release of its customs-detained cells to its Georgia factories.
In the battery sector, a mystery surrounds a recent deal. A company, possibly Tesla or FREYR Battery, has secured a supply of over 13 GWh of USA-manufactured battery cells from LG Energy Solution. While Tesla has made significant investments in battery development and recycling, there's no concrete evidence linking it to this specific deal. FREYR, with its plans for US-based production, is another potential candidate.
The energy sector continues to evolve, with job cuts at Blue Ridge Power, supportive legislation in Vermont, and strong public backing for NYPA's renewable energy plans. The energy storage sector has shown impressive growth, and the battery industry remains dynamic, with a recent deal for USA-manufactured cells leaving room for speculation about the involved company.
