YouTube is stepping into the future with a new suite of AI-powered tools designed to enhance video production for content creators. The platform has partnered with Google DeepMind to bring these innovative features to life.
One of the key tools is Veo 3, a generative AI software that can create videos from text prompts. This software has been integrated into YouTube Shorts, allowing creators to leverage AI features with ease. The custom version, called Veo 3 Fast, is optimised for mobile usage and offers free video creation, making it accessible to all.
Veo 3 Fast runs faster with a lower latency of 480p and can generate videos with sound, providing a more immersive experience for viewers. It's currently available in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions set to follow soon.
Another tool being introduced is Edit with AI. This feature creates a ready-to-go first draft of videos from raw camera-roll clips. It selects the best moments, adds music and transitions, and can even add a voiceover in English or Hindi. Edit with AI is currently being tested on Shorts and the YouTube Create app, with plans to bring it to select markets in the coming weeks.
YouTube is also expanding a likeness-detection tool to all YouTube Partner Program creators in an open beta. This tool flags videos that potentially rip off a user's facial likeness, providing an additional layer of protection for content creators. If a user finds an unauthorised video, they can request that it be taken down.
These new tools are part of YouTube's commitment to supporting content creators. The likeness-detection tool can be seen as a reimagined version of Content ID, YouTube's copyright-flagging system, for the AI era. With these tools, YouTube is reaffirming its position as a platform that values creativity and innovation.
