Bremerhaven Residents Warned After Fuel Theft and Tank Damage Incidents
Bremerhaven residents have been warned to be vigilant after two incidents of suspected fuel theft and tank damage in the early hours of the morning. The police are investigating the incidents and accepting witness statements.
On the night of September 27th, a 72-year-old woman in Bremerhaven-Leherheide discovered that her car's fuel had been stolen and the tank damaged. She noticed a fuel smell when she got into her car around 1:45 AM, but couldn't identify it. Later, around 2:30 AM near Debstedter Weg, her car ran out of fuel. She found the fuel cap open and gasoline missing. Upon refilling the tank, she noticed gasoline leaking from a hole in the tank into a storm drain. The police found a hole drilled in the tank, suspecting it was how the fuel was stolen. The woman's car was no longer roadworthy after the incident.
A similar incident occurred over the weekend in Bremerhaven-Geestemünde. The driver of a VW Polo noticed the leak on Monday morning at a gas station on Schiffdorfer Chaussee. The Bremerhaven Police can be contacted for further inquiries at 0471 953-1404 or via email at [email protected].
The Bremerhaven Police are urging residents to be cautious and report any suspicious activity around parked cars. They can be contacted at 0471/953-4444 to provide witness statements. While there are no reliable public reports or police announcements confirming systematic tank hole creation, fuel theft, and contamination of rainwater channels in the affected areas, any such incidents should be reported to the police immediately.
