Canada Invests $5M in 157 New EV Charging Stations Across Atlantic Canada

The federal government has allocated $5 million to install 157 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Atlantic Canada by 2025. Nova Scotia MP Kody Blois announced this on Friday, on behalf of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson.

The funding will benefit various projects through Natural Resources Canada's Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). Steele Auto Group Limited will receive $1.3 million to install 37 Level 2 and 28 Level 3 chargers at dealerships across the four Atlantic provinces. Nikmaq Trading Inc. will install 10 Level 3 chargers near the Halifax Stanfield International Airport with a $742,500 grant. Glooscap First Nation will receive $225,000 to install two Level 3 chargers at Glooscap Landing in Hantsport, N.S. Southwest Properties will install 20 Level 2 chargers at multi-unit residential buildings in Halifax with a $100,000 grant. Nova Scotia Power will install 60 Level 3 chargers in public places in Nova Scotia with a $3 million grant. Two Indigenous organizations will also receive funding to serve a highway retail hub and the airport.

The new chargers will be installed at workplaces, public on-street parking areas, and multi-unit residential buildings in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

This investment aims to expand EV charging infrastructure, supporting the adoption of electric vehicles and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Atlantic Canada.
