Chrome update of crucial importance released by Google today, necessitating update completion by June 5th.

Google released a significant update for its Chrome web browser on Wednesday, aiming to fix two critical security vulnerabilities. Despite limited information available about the flaws, users are strongly encouraged to update their browsers promptly to minimize potential risks.

In a recent statement, Google's security team vaguely mentioned that specifics about the bugs might remain confidential until a majority of users have been updated with the fix. The statement continued, indicating that such restrictions would remain in place if the flaws existed in third-party libraries yet to be addressed.

The update rectifies several high- and medium-severity issues:

  • CVE-2025-5063: A use-after-free issue in Compositing (High severity)
  • CVE-2025-5280: An out-of-bounds write in V8 (High severity)
  • CVE-2025-5064: Inappropriate implementation in Background Fetch API (Medium severity)
  • CVE-2025-5065: Inappropriate implementation in FileSystemAccess API (Medium severity)
  • CVE-2025-5066: Inappropriate implementation in Messages (Medium severity)
  • CVE-2025-5281: Inappropriate implementation in BFCache (Medium severity)
  • CVE-2025-5283: A use-after-free in libvpx (Medium severity)

Previously, in May, Google addressed another vulnerability that could potentially result in account takeovers if query parameters were stolen. First reported by user @slonser_ on X, this issue was deemed so serious that America's Cyber Defense Agency issued a mandatory warning for all federal staff to update their browsers or discontinue using Chrome by June 5.

Given the public exposure of this vulnerability, any hacker or pentester looking to breach outdated Chrome builds would now find it relatively straightforward.

Updating Chrome is a straightforward process, even though the group of vulnerabilities at hand is quite serious. To update your Chrome build, simply open the Settings menu, navigate to the About Chrome section from the left-hand tab, and follow the prompts for the latest version update. After downloading and installing the update, click the Relaunch button to complete the process.
