Chennai, India is getting smarter and greener! Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has been awarded a contract by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to design, manufacture, and supply 96 Metropolis metro cars for Chennai Metro Phase II. This project will span approximately 119km with over 76km elevated and 43km underground, making it easier for over 11 million citizens to travel around the city.

  • Alstom will manufacture 32 metro trainsets (three-car configurations) and provide 15 years of comprehensive maintenance after the warranty period.
  • These driverless Metropolis metros will include features like train-to-train and train-to-track evacuation capabilities for enhanced passenger safety.

Alstom has already manufactured 30 stations, depots, and over 208 metro cars for Chennai Metro Phase I, and has delivered metro trains to several cities in India, including Delhi, Lucknow, Kochi, and Mumbai. This new project brings Alstom's metros to yet another vibrant city!
