Contemplating the collection of 'Zakat' via text messages on TBS platform.
In a significant move, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) is set to discuss the possibility of collecting 'zakat' through the short messaging system (SMS) with the Mufti's office. This proposal comes as part of TBS's ongoing efforts to modernise and streamline zakat collection methods.
TBS, which has a history of successful zakat collection campaigns, is not only considering SMS as a payment option but also aims to collect zakat from government departments, agencies, and private companies through direct pay cuts. This multi-faceted approach is expected to boost TBS's zakat collection target of RM60 million for this year, an increase from the RM59 million collected last year.
At a recent aid presentation ceremony in Kuching, TBS distributed RM88,969 in 'zakat' to 57 recipients. The event was attended by key figures such as Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, the Chairman of Lembaga Baitulmal and Wakaf, and the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department (Islamic Affairs). Datu Putit Matzen, the President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, was also present.
In 2010, TBS distributed a substantial RM24 million in aid through various programs. However, no new information about the proposed SMS zakat collection or direct pay cuts from government departments, agencies, and private companies was provided during this event.
For precise and up-to-date information about TBS's proposed SMS zakat collection initiative and other related matters, it is advisable to consult official announcements or the official website of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.
TBS is exploring the use of technology in business, aiming to collect zakat from government departments and private companies through direct pay cuts and SMS, a move that could revolutionize financing practices. This ambitious multi-faceted approach is anticipated to enhance TBS's financial goals, with an aim to exceed RM60 million in zakat collection this year.
