Cross-border tech fair showcases AI advancements from China, promoting technological cooperation
The 22nd China-ASEAN Expo, held from September 19 to September 23, 2025, in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, showcased a significant focus on artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration between China and ASEAN countries.
A key highlight was the inaugural Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence, aimed at fostering closer ties between the two regions. This roundtable was just one of over 10 AI-themed events scheduled for the expo.
The "AI CAEXPO" intelligent system was launched prior to the event, designed to streamline on-site operations. The system, integrated into 17 scenarios such as smart conferencing, navigation, and itinerary planning, provided exhibitors with advanced intelligent experiences in itinerary management, customer engagement, business matchmaking, and multilingual negotiation.
The expo also revealed the "China's Top 100 Future AI Unicorn Enterprises Going Global" list, although the specific names of the 100 enterprises were not detailed in the search results. Notable Chinese AI companies typically included Baidu, Alibaba, ByteDance, Tencent, and startups like Stepfun (Step-Star Era/Jiejue Xingchen) and Minimax (Xiyu Technology/Xverse), known for their advanced AI innovations.
Innovations such as large language models, robots, wearable devices, and intelligent application platforms were on display at the AI pavilion. Technological achievements from ASEAN countries like Brunei, Malaysia, and Thailand were also showcased, reflecting the growing collaboration in the AI sector.
Another significant aspect of the expo was the China-ASEAN Young Leaders Growth Program. The first batch of participants' report was released, and 30 participants were selected for the second batch of the program. This initiative aims to nurture young leaders as builders and inheritors of China-ASEAN friendship.
Wei Zhaohui, secretary-general of the expo's secretariat, stated that CAEXPO serves as a "Nanning Channel" to strengthen cross-border people-to-people connections. Approximately 1,200 advanced AI products were showcased at the expo from both domestic tech firms and international partners, further emphasizing the growing importance of AI collaboration between China and ASEAN. The blue book "Outlook on China-ASEAN Economic and Trade Cooperation" was also published for this year's CAEXPO, analysing trends in two-way economic and trade collaboration, with a focus on the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area's nine key areas.
