Cybertruck owner discovers rusty marks following magnet attachment to door, expresses concern about potential damage.

The Tesla Cybertruck, known for its sleek and durable stainless steel body, has been facing an unexpected issue: rust spots caused by magnetic decals. Several Cybertruck owners have reported localized rust on the areas where magnetic decals were attached, with no signs of corrosion on the rest of the vehicle.

One such owner, Wes Fisher from Ohio, noticed brown rust spots on his Cybertruck after removing a magnetic decal from the rear driver's side door. Robert Baze, another affected owner, has scheduled a service appointment to have his doors replaced under warranty. Anna Schwind, Jenia Craighead, Justin West, and Ray Stickel are among the other Cybertruck owners who have shared similar experiences.

The rust damage appears to be a result of the magnets trapping moisture or causing electrochemical interactions that damage the stainless steel's protective layer. While stainless steel is generally corrosion-resistant, this localized rust suggests that magnetic decals can have a detrimental effect. Interestingly, other users with magnetic signs on different vehicles have not reported issues, possibly due to different materials or better-quality magnetic products.

Ray Stickel, after removing the rust using Bar Keepers Friend, ended up polishing the surface too much and had to polish the entire truck to match. This incident underscores the importance of handling rust damage carefully to avoid further damage.

In light of these reports, Robert Baze suggests that Tesla should issue a bulletin warning Cybertruck owners about the potential dangers of magnets corroding the truck's stainless steel. He believes that Tesla should replace the doors under warranty for Cybertruck owners who have experienced magnet-associated corrosion.

Owners experiencing this issue are advised to clean the affected area thoroughly and consider wrapping the vehicle to prevent further corrosion. If you own a Cybertruck with magnetic decals, it's essential to monitor the area for any signs of rust and take prompt action if necessary.
