Delta's 50 kW Pole-Mounted DC Charger Speeds EV Adoption
Taiwanese charging company Delta has unveiled a significant innovation in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Their 50 kW pole-mounted DC charger, RapidPost 50, promises to accelerate EV adoption by addressing critical charging issues for drivers without off-street parking.
The RapidPost 50 unit can charge a typical EV from 20% to 80% in just 47 minutes, providing fast and cheap deployment with minimal community disruption. It can be installed on existing power poles, bypassing the need for extensive civil construction and permits. This innovation is a crucial step towards providing critical charging infrastructure to a broader community, supporting the next stage of early mainstream EV adoption.
The charger, designed for harsh outdoor environments, features smaller screens to reduce vandalism and a credit card reader for payment options. Even cars with slower 6.6 kW AC on-board chargers can charge at a minimum peak speed of over 40 kW at the kerb using this charger. With Australia's EV sales reaching over 10% of the market, indicating early mainstream adoption, solutions like the RapidPost 50 are vital for supporting this growth.
