Dubai's utility company, DEWA, unveils plans to lead as the world's first AI-integrated utility at Dubai AI Week 2025.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) made a significant impact at Dubai AI Week 2025, held from 21st to 25th April, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The event, organised by the Dubai Future Foundation and the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, brought together global leaders, tech giants, and policymakers to drive AI adoption across critical sectors.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, participated in the AI Retreat at the Museum of the Future, reaffirming DEWA's alignment with Dubai's broader AI ambitions. Al Tayer also unveiled DEWA's latest innovation, an AI-powered Legislation Agent, designed to provide a unified digital reference for regulations and legislation. This agent aims to reduce decision-making time and enhance work outcomes by guiding employees on regulatory compliance and proactive decision-making in technical and operational matters.

DEWA's goal of becoming the world's first AI-native utility is a strategic priority. This involves integrating AI deeply into its operations to improve efficiency, service quality, and technological leadership. Recent initiatives include the use of AI in operations to automate grid management, predict energy demand, and increase efficiency in water utilisation. DEWA has also partnered with major tech companies like DataRobot, IBM, Microsoft, and ServiceNow to leverage AI technologies.

A notable partnership was recently forged with Google Cloud, aiming to utilise AI for tasks such as generating high-quality podcasts, reducing costs by 99%, further solidifying DEWA's position as a leader in AI adoption. DEWA has been using AI since 2017, starting with customer service, and has expanded its AI systems to include HR, training, and research.

DEWA's commitment aligns with the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, aiming to make the UAE a world leader in AI by investing in key industries and people. DEWA's participation in AI Week in Schools initiative is a testament to this commitment, as it aims to introduce students and educators to AI skills.

At Area 2071, DEWA is highlighting partnerships through Moro Hub, aimed at promoting smart, sustainable solutions. DEWA ranks top globally in 12 key performance indicators, a testament to its operational excellence and commitment to digital transformation.

DEWA's strategic roadmap includes a roadmap to become the world's first AI-native utility by integrating AI across electricity and water production, transmission, and distribution. This week-long event serves as a platform for DEWA to showcase its AI strategy and commitment to driving AI adoption in Dubai and beyond.
