Electric reimagining of the Acura RSX abandoned traditional coupe design, now featuring a raised suspension and sleek fastback body style, decisively distinguishing it as a modernized electric vehicle, not a tribute to its predecessor.
The 2027 Acura RSX electric crossover is set to make its debut in North America, marking a significant milestone for the automaker's electrification strategy. This new vehicle will be the first modern, mass-market, authentically Honda EV to be sold in the United States.
Manufactured at the Marysville, Ohio "EV Hub," the RSX will share the flexible manufacturing line with the Acura Integra. The RSX's design takes inspiration from Acura's sports car legacy, boasting a distinctive fastback crossover silhouette, a full-width rear light bar, and a sharp, separated LED headlight design that evolves Acura’s Diamond Pentagon styling.
Under the hood, the RSX will feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, a sport-tuned double-wishbone front suspension, and Brembo brakes all around, promising agile handling and sporty performance.
Acura has developed an exclusive new operating system called ASIMO OS for the RSX. This software is designed to customize the driving experience by learning driver preferences and managing advanced driver assistance systems like the rebranded Super Cruise (Hands Free Cruise). The RSX will also be capable of using its battery for mobile energy storage, powering devices or providing home backup during outages, aligning with Acura's carbon neutrality goals.
Safety and driver assistance features are expected to build on Acura's existing suite, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, lane keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control.
The RSX nameplate returns as a modern electric crossover, paying homage to the original sporty RSX coupe by emphasizing performance and precision-crafted design DNA characteristic of Acura’s brand heritage. The new RSX continues the spirit of the original, popular in the 2000s, by combining sportiness with modern electrification and technology.
It's important to note that Acura does not consider the RSX a successor to the previous RSX coupe, but there is an association due to the name. The RSX bridges past and future by being produced on the same line as the Integra, which the original RSX replaced, representing a full-circle moment for Acura.
The RSX will offer the first taste of the new Asimo OS software that will power both Acura and Honda’s EVs. It will also incorporate a NACS charging port from day one. So far, only Ford has embraced the concept of providing backup power to a home among major automakers.
While Acura did not disclose if the non-realistic characteristics of the RSX's show car will be present in the production model, it's clear that the 2027 Acura RSX electric crossover is positioned as a cutting-edge EV that respects the performance legacy of the original RSX coupe while introducing new technologies and an electrified drivetrain to define Acura's next era of precision-crafted performance vehicles.
