In the world of Hollywood, the upcoming film "Artificial," directed by Luca Guadagnino and set for a 2026 release, promises to bring a comedic yet critical light to some of the tech industry's most influential figures. Ike Barinholtz, an Emmy-nominated actor, is rumoured to portray Elon Musk, while Andrew Garfield is expected to play Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI.

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has been no stranger to parodies on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). He hosted the show in 2021, and Dana Carvey portrayed him in a post-election episode in November. However, Musk has not always had a positive experience with the show, with Chloe Fineman, a cast member, claiming he was rude on set and made her cry.

The film "Artificial" depicts Musk as a figure who combines elements of comic relief and villainy. One script moment refers to him as a "dictator." The movie centres on the 2023 leadership shake-up at OpenAI, notably the controversial firing and rapid reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman.

The film reportedly dramatizes the notorious 2023 scandal during Thanksgiving when OpenAI abruptly fired Altman as CEO. This event caused a significant stir in the tech world, and Altman's quick reinstatement followed within days amid internal power struggles. The film apparently explores the internal dynamics and tensions, including Ilya Sutskever's role in orchestrating Altman's firing. Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, will also be portrayed, with Monica Barbaro in talks for that role.

"Artificial" also includes other tech figures and is described as a comedic drama about the world of artificial intelligence. Both Musk and Altman are rumoured to be unhappy with their portrayals in the movie.

Forbes estimates Musk's net worth at $415 billion, and he owns about 12% of Tesla and 42% of SpaceX. Altman, on the other hand, is worth $1.8 billion, according to Forbes estimates.
