Hold the ROG Xbox Ally X, and you'll feel its solid, substantial build. It's no Nintendo Switch 2 in terms of portability, but it's not a burden during gameplay either.
Diving into the initial chapter of Gears of War: Reloaded, the visuals are breathtaking. Higher resolutions, enhanced textures, and improved particle effects elevate the game significantly compared to the near-decade-old Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
As I battled my way through the iconic prison level, the frame rate remained impressive, often exceeding 75 FPS even during chaotic explosions.
Kate Rayner, The Coalition's studio technical director, revealed that the team has put in an extraordinary effort to optimize Gears of War: Reloaded for these next-gen devices. The ROG Xbox Ally X efficiently runs the game on High settings, while the ROG Xbox Ally primarily runs on Medium settings.
The discussion couldn't help but touch on the potential price of the ROG Xbox Ally X. Although Microsoft hasn't revealed the exact cost, the current ROG Ally X retails around $800 in the U.S. Considering the custom work on this new model, a substantial price tag seems inevitable.
Impressed by the device's Impulse Triggers and feedback, I found playing Gears of War: Reloaded on the ROG Xbox Ally X a natural experience.
However, there's an elephant in the room: the price. With regional leaks estimating the ROG Xbox Ally X to cost around €899 in Europe[1][3], and possibly $799 in the U.S[3], affording this powerful device might prove challenging for some gamers.
