The beer industry in the EU continues to thrive, with significant production, export, and import figures. Germany maintains its position as the leading producer of countries, while France and Italy top the import charts. Meanwhile, the Netherlands emerges as the largest exporter of countries.
Germany, the heart of the EU's beer production, churned out an impressive 7.2 billion litres in 2024, contributing a substantial 22.2% to the total EU production of 34.7 billion litres. This includes 2 billion litres of low-alcohol beer, reflecting a growing trend towards healthier options.
The Netherlands, known for its brewing prowess, exported a staggering 1.5 billion litres of beer in 2024, solidifying its position as the leading exporter of countries in the EU. However, specific export volumes from other EU regions, such as Thüringen, are not yet available for 2024, though 2023 data shows exports of 2.1 million litres.
In the import sector, France took the crown with 0.8 billion litres purchased in 2024, followed closely by Italy with 0.7 billion litres. Eurostat reports a 0.2% increase in high-alcohol beer production in 2024, reaching 32.7 billion litres.
