EU-supported AgriFI facility provides $2.5m to Ghanaian farmer, aiding expansion endeavors
Ghana-based agricultural marketplace, Complete Farmer, is set to significantly expand its operations in the northern regions of the country, thanks to a €2.2 million (approximately US$2.5 million) funding from the European Union-funded AgriFI facility.
The funding will be utilised to construct six new fulfilment centres across the five northern regions. These centres will serve as hubs for agricultural aggregation, quality control, logistics, improved storage, and post-harvest management. The initiative aims to address the infrastructure gap in rural areas that are often underserved by agricultural support services.
The new fulfilment centres are expected to stimulate rural employment, improve incomes, and shorten value chains. By enhancing market access and agricultural productivity for thousands of smallholder farmers, the centres will modernise farming practices, provide access to high-quality inputs, and open new markets for farmers' produce.
Complete Farmer's goal is to serve over 50,000 Ghanaian farmers by 2028, focusing on boosting rural livelihoods and food security through innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions. The investment aligns with Ghana's broader agricultural agenda and is expected to strengthen value chains, create smoother operations, increase yields, and raise incomes for farmers.
Desmond Koney, CEO of Complete Farmer, stated that the partnership with AgriFI strengthens their mission to create a more resilient agricultural sector in West Africa. Koney believes that technology can empower farmers and buyers alike, and with this support, they can reach thousands more with the tools and market access they need.
Complete Farmer's platform connects African farmers and global industries on a single platform, offering two main solutions: CF Grower and CF Buyer. CF Grower is a product tailored for African farmers, providing precision farming tools, data-driven cultivation protocols, and access to global markets to optimise productivity and improve livelihoods. On the other hand, CF Buyer offers reliable and easy access to commodities for buyers across the world.
The European Union-funded AgriFI facility provided the funding to boost Complete Farmer's expansion efforts, aligning with the regional priorities of the AgriFI Ghana Country Window. The investment is expected to contribute to the broader development objectives of the European Union.
In summary, the funding will accelerate Complete Farmer’s expansion in northern Ghana by building essential infrastructure, enhancing digital services, and scaling up their reach to empower thousands of smallholder farmers with better productivity and market integration.
The funding from the AgriFI facility, a European Union-funded entity, will be integrated into Complete Farmer's operations to build six new fulfilment centers that will prioritize the usage of technology to enhance agriculture in the northern regions of Ghana, allowing for investment opportunities within both the agriculture and technology industries within finance.
With these new centers, quarantining and processing agricultural produce, as well as improving digital services for smallholder farmers, Complete Farmer aims to create greater market access, boost rural employment, and modernize farming practices, thereby increasing incomes and raising the standard of rural livelihoods.
