Europe Leads in Digital Agriculture Patents, Germany in Second Place
A new study by the European Patent Office (EPO) has revealed Europe's leading role in digital marketing, also known as Smart Farming. The continent holds around 29% of all international patent families (IPFs) in this field, ahead of North America and Asia. Germany, in particular, shows strong innovative strength.
Germany ranks second worldwide in digital marketing patents, closely behind the United States. It has around 3,100 IPFs, making it the strongest individual country in Europe. Two German agricultural machinery manufacturers, Claas and Amazone, have shown high innovative strength in this sector.
The digital marketing sector has grown by around 9.4% per year since 2012, three times faster than other technical areas. This rapid growth is reflected in the EPO's report, which highlights the hub of innovation in Europe, with 200 startups and 125 universities involved.
Among companies, John Deere ranks first with the most international patent families in digital marketing. However, a large corporation holding several tractor brands performs poorly in digital marketing innovation. AGCO, another large corporation, also shows unexpected low innovation in this area.
The EPO's study underscores Europe's, and particularly Germany's, leading role in digital marketing innovation. Despite a large corporation's poor performance, companies like Claas and Amazone demonstrate Germany's strong innovative potential in this rapidly growing sector.
