Funding Boost for Baden-Württemberg's Game Industry
In an ambitious move to strengthen the digital audiovisual sector and establish Baden-Württemberg as a leading hub for game development, the state is providing 1.2 million euros for game funding in 2025 as part of "Games BW".
The funding aims to retain game developers in the state, promote the founding of new game studios, and support innovations in the field of games and gamification. It also seeks to strengthen the production and development location of games in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and Europe, contributing to a diverse and innovative creative economy.
The software/games industry is a key player in Baden-Württemberg's economy, with a turnover volume of around 16.57 billion euros and a growth of around twelve percent compared to the previous year. Around 150 companies with over 1,400 employees are active in the Baden-Württemberg games industry, making it the largest sub-sector of the cultural and creative economy in the region.
The funding attracts game studios from within and outside the country to settle in Baden-Württemberg through attractive funding conditions. This year, four indie studios from the region—Application Systems Heidelberg, kaleidoscube, Studio Seufz, and Walk the Frog—presented their latest games and developments at the Indie Arena Booth on Gamescom 2025. Sadly, information about nine other studios was not available.
Games BW offers financial funding, further training, start-up programs, networking, and brokerage offers for the games industry. All necessary information and application forms can be found on the MFG Website. The next deadline for project applications is August 31, 2025.
