Expensive-Quality Sound Equipment, L-Acoustics, Installed at Nobu Toronto
Toronto's Nobu Restaurant Raises the Bar with L-Acoustics Sound System
Nobu Toronto, the latest addition to the renowned sushi chain founded by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper, has elevated its game with an L-Acoustics X Series professional sound system. A two-level, 278-seat restaurant within the Nobu Hotel, Restaurant & Residences project, this high-end eatery required a sound system that's as sleek and sophisticated as its ambiance.
The L-Acoustics X Series — chosen for its high-performance capabilities in a compact package — was the perfect fit for Nobu's design concept. Local consultants Mulvey & Banani Audio Visual, integrated by The 192 Group, expertly designed the system to cover the 10,000-square-foot venue evenly and deliver crystal-clear, dynamic audio for both background music and high-powered reinforcement for visiting DJs.
Why L-Acoustics for Nobu?
Nobu Toronto's goal was to blend state-of-the-art technology with exquisite design, creating an immersive experience for diners. The L-Acoustics X Series system was chosen due to its ability to provide excellent sound quality while seamlessly blending into the venue's architecture [1].
Corry McGibbon, president of The 192 Group, emphasized the significance of the music in defining the dining experience. As with the lighting, décor, and food, the quality of the music was as important as all the other design choices that contribute to the Nobu ambience [2].
The Challenges of the Project
Integrating powerful sound into the venue's architecture posed a significant challenge for the team. "We landed on L-Acoustics," explained Gregory Rushton, VP at Mulvey & Banani Audio Visual, "because it fits the bill perfectly. X Series are powerful speakers in a very small package" [1].
The Technological Shift in Nightlife
Nobu Toronto's overall design reflects a transformation in Toronto's nightlife scene, moving from vibrant nightclubs to a more muted supper club and lounge experience. Higher-end restaurants have become the linchpin of this market, just as excellent sound was critical to the success of nightclubs. "The technology has to follow that" [2].
The Installation
Nobu Toronto's installation features 22 coaxial X8 enclosures, one larger X12, 25 ultra-compact 5XT speakers, and a dozen ceiling-mounted SB10i subs, spread over two levels. These are driven by LA7.16i and LA4X amplified controllers [1].
The system is equipped to handle multiple zones for the bar and dining areas, providing flexibility and maximum coverage throughout the space [1]. The audio setup comes with the ability to manage the quantity of speakers, ensuring quality audio in all zones within the space.
The installation has already garnered positive feedback from high-end events like the Toronto International Film Festival and Fashion Toronto [1]. It seems Nobu Toronto lives up to its promise of delivering a premium experience, with sound quality every bit as impressive as what you'd expect at a top-tier concert [1].
