Experienced extended use of Whoop MG: Notable Advantages and Disadvantages Detailed

No Frills, Straight-Up Whoop MG Review

Finally diving into the latest from Whoop, their most advanced screenless wearable, the Whoop MG. This bad boy is exclusive to their top-tier Life subscription that sets you back £359/ $359/ AU$ 629 annually.

What's in the Box

The Whoop MG, announced in May 2025, isn't a standalone purchase. Instead, it comes bundled with Whoop's Life membership. Three tiers of membership are available: One, Peak, and Life. Life membership includes the Whoop MG.

The Nitty-Gritty

  • Phone Compatibility: iPhone and Android
  • Size: 1.37 x 0.94 x 0.42 in/ 34.7 x 24 x 10.6 mm
  • Weight: 27.3 g
  • Water Resistance: IP68 (up to 10 meters)
  • Battery Life: up to 14 days
  • Heart Rate Sensor: Yes
  • GPS: No
  • OS: n/a

Design and Build Quality

The Whoop MG takes its cues from its predecessor, delivering a screenless tracking experience. Despite being somewhat larger than the Whoop 5.0 due to its conductive clasp (used for ECG signal acquisition), it's smaller than the Whoop 4.0.

Weighing approximately 27g, it's a lightweight, all-day wear option. While other bands are available, only the SuperKnit Luxe with its conductive clasp enables ECG and Heart Screener functions. Those accessories? They ain't cheap, with a 4-set of boxers setting you back £96.

Is GPS a Deal Breaker?

GPS is a common feature these days but surprisingly missing on both the Whoop MG and Whoop 5.0. Lack of GPS means no route tracking for runs and cycles, but it does help extend battery life.

Setting Alarms

The Whoop MG is equipped with a vibration motor, allowing you to set silent alarms in the app and send them over to the wearable. Deep sleepers might not find them effective enough.

Missing the Small Display

No display means no checking the time without grabbing your phone, inviting distractions. A small display with just the time would have been a nice addition.

Features and Accuracy

New features announced with the latest wearables include Healthspan, Pace of Ageing, ECG and Heart Screener, Daily Blood Pressure Insights, and Afib notifications. ECG, Heart Screener, and blood pressure are exclusive to the Life membership tier and the Whoop MG.

Healthspan tells you your Whoop age, which is based on nine biometrics that have a "direct impact on preventing or encouraging longevity." These include sleep quality, physical activity, VO2 Max, resting heart rate, and more.

Blood pressure estimations (not true readings like Huawei Watch D2) are interesting, but setting the initial baseline might be challenging. After that, daily blood pressure estimates are provided, which were in line with my manual readings during testing.

Strain tracking remains at the core of the Whoop experience, balancing exertion with sleep and recovery. The app will always recommend an optimal strain level for the day based on your training, sleep, and stress levels.

The Whoop MG automatically tracks specific exercises but struggles to recognize shorter and less intense walks. Manual logging of walks is possible but requires extra effort.

The Whoop Coach, an integrated AI chatbot, is still present but basic, offering limited insights into training and recovery.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery life is impressive, lasting around two weeks on average, with no plugged-in time required thanks to the wireless charger.

Verdict

The Whoop MG refines what was already a distraction-free, data-driven platform for optimizing health and recovery, but its steep cost (Life subscription) and a few early niggles with tracking leave some room for improvement. Still, for those who appreciate minimalism and are willing to pay a premium for it, the Whoop MG is hard to beat.

The Whoop MG, bundled with Whoop's Life membership, boasts a strong focus on health-and-wellness, offering features like ECG and Heart Screener, Daily Blood Pressure Insights, and Afib notifications, all of which are exclusive to the Life membership tier and the Whoop MG. The technology integrated into this fitness-and-exercise wearable extends beyond health monitoring, boasting a robust battery life of up to 14 days, making it suitable for science-focused individuals seeking long-lasting, distraction-free wearables.
