Exploring the Visionary Realm of Ash Thorp

Ash Thorp, a multi-talented artist, has made a name for himself in the world of visual design and art direction. Known for his dramatic and atmospheric style, Thorp's work is characterised by a flair for rich, deep colours and bold visual aesthetics.

Thorp's creative journey began in his childhood, nurtured in an artistic household. His career has seen him work on a diverse range of projects, from films like Ender's Game, Ghost in the Shell, Assassin's Creed, and the video game Call of Duty, to his personal projects, Awaken Akira and Epoch II.

One of the tools that Thorp appreciates and frequently uses is Sapphire, a suite of visual effects plugins for Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. Thorp finds Sapphire consistently amazing to work with, as it helps him achieve the look and feel comparable to some of his all-time favourite films.

In his personal project, Epoch II, Thorp paired Sapphire effects with Adobe's built-in Lumetri tools to produce stunning results. The short film, a cosmic space journey inspired by Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, was even recognised as a Vimeo staff pick.

Similarly, in his tribute to the iconic anime Akira, titled Awaken Akira, Thorp used Sapphire's S_Glow effect to mimic the original anime's distinctive look.

Thorp also finds value in other Adobe tools, such as Particle Illusion, which he used in Epoch II to create breathtaking visual effects.

Thorp's favourite Sapphire effects include S_Glow, S_WarpChroma, S_ZBlur, and S_RackDefocus. These effects help him create the vibrant and impactful visual elements that are a hallmark of his work.

Thorp's drive to work on feature films led him to give himself one year to achieve this goal, which he referred to as his year of "pure potential." His creative career continues to thrive, with his company, ALT Creative, Inc., at the forefront of his ventures.

Thorp's work often blends elements of comics, anime, and space, reflecting his passion for these genres. As he continues to push the boundaries of visual design, Thorp considers Sapphire an "extremely valuable asset" in his toolkit.

Ash Thorp's creative projects extend beyond visual design and art direction in movies and TV, as he also employs technology like artificial-intelligence in his personal projects. In his tribute to the iconic anime Akira, titled Awaken Akira, Thorp used artificial-intelligence to mimic the original anime's distinctive look, showcasing how he incorporates various tools from entertainment and technology in his work.
