Flight disruptions at Dallas airports due to technical problems with telecommunication equipment, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been managing air traffic delays at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas Love Field, following a local telephone company equipment issue that caused flight stoppages and delays on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, American Airlines reported an issue involving the telecommunications provider for the air traffic control facility that oversees the airspace in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The FAA, however, confirmed that the outage was not caused by FAA equipment.

The telecommunications outage affected flights on American Airlines and other airlines, causing delays of over an hour at DFW Airport. As of late Friday afternoon, departures from Love Field were delayed by approximately 30 minutes due to the equipment outage.

Both airports have been in constant communication with the FAA to manage the situation and minimise disruptions. Love Field, for instance, has been working closely with the FAA to ensure that the impact on flights is minimised.

The FAA is working with the telephone company to determine the cause of the equipment issue. The specific provider's name has not been disclosed publicly by the FAA. It's also worth noting that this issue is not linked to the aging equipment that air traffic controllers rely on or the nationwide shortage of controllers that disrupted flights at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this year.

The federal government is working to overhaul the technology after Congress approved $12.5 billion and hire thousands more controllers. However, both the technology overhaul and the hiring of additional controllers are expected to take years to complete.

As of the time of the report, the FAA has not announced any plans to resume normal operations at Dallas-area airports. The FAA is managing the air traffic delays in the area, and the delays are expected to continue well into Friday night.

In conclusion, a local telephone company equipment issue has caused flight delays and stoppages at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. The FAA is working with the telephone company to determine the cause of the equipment issue, and both airports are in constant communication with the FAA to manage the situation and minimise disruptions. The federal government is also working to overhaul the technology and hire more controllers, but these changes are expected to take years to complete.
