Noble architect Norman Foster unveils a transformative urban vision for Kharkiv, Ukraine, battered by continuous conflict. This masterplan, a part of the "Towards a More Equal Future" exhibition at the Triennale di Milano, aims to create a city of the future, focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience.
The masterplan encompasses five transitional pilot projects, carefully designed to propel the city forward. Over 800 professionals and more than 16,000 citizens took part in over 230 working sessions to ensure the project accurately reflects the city's needs and aspirations[1]. The plan's creation is a collaborative effort between Foster's team at the Norman Foster Foundation, global urban experts like Arup, economists from esteemed institutions such as Harvard and Oxford, and various local and international partners[1].

Despite the focus on city rebuilding and sustainability, the Commission has not been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation in the context of Kharkiv's urban vision. On the contrary, this project emphasizes a lifestyle that promotes Walker-era design principles, like privacy and the use of technology to connect people, within the framework of Norman Foster's city of the future.
