Galaxy Z Fold 7 showcased in initial hands-on leak, boasting a streamlined and stylish design
The tech world is abuzz with the latest developments surrounding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. New images of the device have been leaked, offering a sneak peek into the significant improvements and design changes that set it apart from its predecessor.
One of the most striking features of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is its slimmer and lighter design. Measuring approximately 9 mm when folded and as slim as 3.9-4.5 mm when unfolded, the Fold 7 promises better portability and ease of use. It is expected to weigh around 215 grams, making it lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra and even the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The Fold 7 also boasts impressive display improvements. It features an approximately 7.9-inch (rumored 8-inch) AMOLED 2X inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, both with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The crease on the foldable screen is expected to be much less visible, enhancing the viewing experience. The cover display is reportedly wider than the Fold 6’s, making one-handed operation easier.
In terms of camera upgrades, the Fold 7 will include a groundbreaking 200MP main camera sensor, similar to that in the Galaxy Z Fold SE and Galaxy S25 Ultra, marking a significant upgrade over the Fold 6’s 50MP sensor. Other cameras such as the 12MP ultrawide and 3x telephoto cameras will remain largely unchanged. Notably, the under-display camera has been removed in favor of a standard punch-hole selfie camera for better image quality.
Powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the Fold 7 promises improved performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor. This chip is the same as in the Galaxy S25 series and delivers superior CPU and GPU benchmarks.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will launch with One UI 8 based on Android 16 and offers seven years of OS and security updates, ensuring long-term support. Samsung is also integrating enhanced AI capabilities optimized for foldable displays, including advanced AI features tied to the camera system for smarter photography and usability.
The Fold 7 will continue to support the S Pen, reinforcing its role as a productivity device that blends smartphone and tablet capabilities. The battery capacity remains unchanged at 4,400 mAh, and charging speed maxes out at 25W. Samsung will rely on hardware and software optimizations to improve battery life rather than increasing capacity.
Reservations for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its counterpart, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, are now open on Samsung.com. Pre-ordering offers a $50 credit that can be used towards the Galaxy Watch 8, as well as 3x reward points and other perks. Up to $1,150+ in savings are available for those who pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
The images reveal the slimness of Samsung's new chassis for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but they do not show the displays in action, as they are covered with paper protectors. The striking silver bezels of the camera array in the leaked images appear practically unfinished, suggesting that more refinements may be made before the official launch next Wednesday, July 9th.
The "Blue Shadow" colorway of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is beautifully saturated and stands in stark contrast to the colors Samsung chose for the S25 series earlier this year. However, the "Green Mint" shade of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is still unseen.
The leaked images were shared by leaker @Jukanlosreve. Samsung has not yet confirmed the dust-resistance rating of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Nonetheless, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s key advancements lie in its slimmer and lighter form factor, enhanced displays with reduced crease visibility, a major camera sensor upgrade, flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite performance, deeper AI integration, and extended software support—making it a significant step forward in foldable smartphone technology.
