German Auto Giants Mercedes-Benz and BMW Hold Strong Despite Chinese Competition
German car brands Mercedes-Benz and BMW continue to dominate the local market, thanks to their robust brand identity and extensive service network. This strength helps them withstand increasing competition from Chinese automakers.
A recent survey by Bearing Point and Handelsblatt Research Institute revealed that 42% of German consumers are now open to buying Chinese-made vehicles. This shift is driven by the appealing price-performance ratio and the wide range of electric vehicles offered by Chinese brands.
However, when it comes to reputation, German EVs still lead the pack. Volkswagen, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz EVs topped the attractiveness index, with Chinese brands MG, BYD, and GWM trailing behind. Despite this, price remains the most crucial factor for customers when choosing an EV. German brands, although pricier, offer a more comprehensive package, including quality, innovation, and brand reputation.
While Chinese automakers are gaining traction in Germany due to their competitive pricing and EV offerings, German brands continue to hold a strong position. Their robust brand presence and superior overall package help them maintain their edge in the market.
