Germany's Heat Guide: Customizable Brochure Aids in Heat Risk Management

The German Environment Agency has launched the Heat Guide, a customizable brochure offering vital information and tips on coping with heat risks. Local authorities and individuals can adapt it with local details and logos, while cities and organizations can participate in the 'Shade Sponsor' campaign to protect vulnerable groups.

The Heat Guide provides essential information, illustrations, and tips on heat risks and mitigation strategies. It can be personalized with a logo, local information, and contact persons by contacting the Competence Center for Climate Impacts and Adaptation. Additional materials like posters and templates are available for download.

Several cities and municipalities have already individualized the Heat Guide. For instance, the district of Hamburg Wandsbek has developed a climate adaptation concept targeting summer heat hotspots and heavy rainfall. Leipzig offers a digital climate rally showcasing local climate protection measures. The brochure is distributed in pharmacies, town halls, and through regional associations.

Private individuals can also participate by downloading the Heat Guide and sharing it with affected persons or on social media. The German Environment Agency encourages involvement through an easy-to-implement participation campaign called 'Shade Sponsor' and a campaign guide 'Donate Shade'. Cities, municipalities, and private or non-profit companies can join this initiative by using the materials and becoming shade sponsors.

The Heat Guide, a customizable brochure offering heat risk information and tips, is available for local authorities and individuals to adapt and distribute. The 'Shade Sponsor' campaign encourages cities, municipalities, and organizations to protect vulnerable groups from heat risks. With climate change leading to more hot days each year, these initiatives aim to raise awareness and promote heat protection measures.
