Glance at the initial preview of Bluegame's powercat yacht, reminiscent of the America's Cup: a peek into the world of high-tech, foiling motoryachts.
Bluegame's breaking the mold once again with their new foiling motor yacht, the BGF45. This bad boy is a larger, more cruising-friendly iteration of the blazingly fast 50-knot foiling chase boat they whipped up for the recent America's Cup challenge.
So, what's the difference between this newbie and its older brother? Well, while the BGH chase boat uses towering, computer-controlled foils to fly above the waves like a modern-day Mercury, the BGF45 opts for a shorter, simpler foiling system nestled between its two hulls. This partial liftoff reduces drag, boosts speed, and improves fuel efficiency, all without the risky business of full-on flying.
Now, the powertrain's had a significant makeover too! Gone are the costly, complex zero-emissions hydrogen fuel-cells used on the chase boats. The BGF45 gets its power from either a pair of Volvo Penta 380hp IPS500s or the punchier 440hp IPS600s. The stronger option should rocket to around 40 knots and provide a smooth, fast cruise of 32 knots, while the weaker-but-still-impressive installation will still reach 34 knots at top speed and 27-28 knots for cruising.
As for the design, the BGF45 boasts a sleek silhouette with near-plumb bows, a carbon-fiber hardtop, and a beam of 16 feet 9 inches. This gives it a more streamlined look than many cruising cats and a massive cockpit with a full-beam bathing platform, a giant aft sunpad, a dinette, and a wet bar. There's even another big sunpad on that wide foredeck.
Below deck, there's room for up to three ensuite cabins. The owners' suite is located forward with a transverse double bed that sprawls across both hulls and has an attached ensuite in the starboard hull. The VIP is located amidships to port with a forward-facing bed and its own ensuite, while the third cabin serves as an "emergency" space for kids or crew.
Aaaaand, if you're still hungry for more blue-water knowledge (or want to conquer the high seas in luxury), you can grab a Motor Boat & Yachting magazine subscription to soak up all the sailing tips and dreamboat fantasies your heart desires!
