Google plans to dominate the German artificial intelligence (AI) sector
Google's Ambitions in Germany's AI Sector
Google intends to steer Germany's AI trajectory, as disclosed by the tech giant's CEO for Germany, Philipp Justus, in the "So techt Deutschland" podcast.
Personal assistants in our pockets and efficient task delegation at work—such capabilities are made possible by generative artificial intelligence (AI). Although Google is widely recognized for search engines, it competes with AI chatbots like ChatGPT. CEO Justus aims to change this perspective, stating, "We at Google have been focused on AI for more than a decade, and our research results and product applications are substantial."
Google's goal is to develop solutions for everyone, rather than a select few. Justus expressed optimism about German consumers embracing AI, as reflected in a Bitkom survey, where 67 percent of Germans use AI occasionally. Despite this, 60 percent of respondents expressed a desire for Germany to become less dependent on US AI companies.
Google is taking steps to ensure that companies using their cloud service can freely choose their data storage location, whether it be in Germany, Europe, or globally. The company is actively seeking European partners like T-Systems and Schwarz Group to collaborate on these initiatives.
Justus believes there is potential for improvement in the economic application of AI, noting, "AI agents and new technologies can significantly boost productivity and accelerate growth." As job availability is not a concern in Germany due to the lack of skilled workers, AI could be instrumental in bridge this gap.
Justus spoke with Frauke Holzmeier and Andreas Laukat in the "So techt Deutschland" podcast. The podcast is available through the ntv app, RTL, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and the RSS feed.
"So techt Deutschland" is a podcast where ntv moderators, Holzmeier and Laukat, engage founders, investors, politicians, and entrepreneurs in discussions about Germany's technology landscape. If you have questions for these esteemed professionals, please send an email to [email protected]
Google's AI initiatives are expanding across various platforms, including search, devices, and subscription services. These efforts reflect the company's global competition stance in the AI landscape, implying that Germany might be a part of these expansion plans.
In adherence to Google's global competition strategy in the AI sector, they are committed to incorporating AI technology in Community policy and Employment policy, particularly in areas of digital assistance and task management. To achieve this, Google is partnering with European entities such as T-Systems and Schwarz Group, aiming to leverage artificial-intelligence advancements to bridge the skilled worker gap in Germany.
