Government partners with Detica for security services contract

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has entered into a two-year information security services contract with BAE Systems Detica, a leading provider of cyber security services. This partnership aims to enhance the security and resilience of MoJ's IT systems and data, safeguarding sensitive information related to justice processes.

The scope of the deal spans two years and includes continuous threat monitoring and detection, incident response, security assessments and penetration testing, data protection and encryption, security consultancy, and compliance management. The services are designed to ensure compliance with various regulatory requirements, such as the UK Government Security Classifications and Standards, data protection laws, and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) protections.

The specific services provided under the contract will help the MoJ improve its cyber resilience, protect sensitive data, ensure regulatory assurance, maintain operational continuity, access expertise, and achieve cost efficiency. By outsourcing specialist security functions, the MoJ aims to achieve strong security outcomes more cost-effectively than building equivalent capabilities internally.

BAE Systems Detica brings strong links to the UK government to the table, having been founded in 1971 as a public sector-focused defense contractor. The company will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, information assurance, and cyber security for the MoJ.

Other government clients of Detica include HM Revenue and Customs, which uses Detica's NetReveal system to detect tax fraud. The MoJ's Head of Information Assurance, Bob Nicholls, anticipates the contract will deliver benefits in terms of both security and cost efficiency.

While the cost of the contract is not specified, it is considered a "first attempt" to address an information gap in the industry, with payment linked to the quality, timeliness, and value for money delivered by Detica. The MoJ looks forward to working closely with BAE Systems Detica to achieve this.

Protecting the MoJ's data and systems is vital to the smooth running of the justice system. This partnership is intended to provide the Ministry of Justice with robust, expert-led cyber security services that safeguard its systems and data against current and emerging threats, while also ensuring regulatory compliance and achieving greater cost efficiency over the two-year period.

This partnership between the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and BAE Systems Detica concentrates on the implementation of cybersecurity technology to safeguard MoJ's IT systems and data over the two-year contract period. The collaboration involves various security services, such as threat monitoring and detection, incident response, security consultancy, and compliance management, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements like the UK Government Security Classifications and Standards, data protection laws, and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) protections.
