Guitarists: Learn Songs Hands-Free with TabCTRL
A novel music-learning tool, TabCTRL, has been developed by a team at the University of Stuttgart. Led by Christian Budde, the software uses an open-source guitar-driven pie menu, GuitarPie, to help guitarists learn songs without lifting their hands from the frets.
GuitarPie, set to be released on GitHub by the end of October, works with any unmodified guitar and computer. It requires only a microphone placed in front of the amp to pick up notes. The software interacts with on-screen options by playing specific notes on the guitar, providing an engaging experience for purists. Voice control could be an alternative, but GuitarPie offers a more immersive learning method.
TabCTRL, which utilises GuitarPie, tracks the tempo and highlights the current musical phrase. It also locks out the menu during play mode to prevent accidental triggering, ensuring uninterrupted learning.
TabCTRL, powered by GuitarPie, offers guitarists an innovative way to learn songs without removing their hands from the frets. The open-source software, soon to be available on GitHub, works with any unmodified guitar and computer, providing an engaging and immersive learning experience.
