Halloween spirits delivered on demand via Uber partnership
In a move to meet the growing demand for convenience and rapid home delivery, Uber has partnered with Spirit Halloween to offer on-demand delivery services for Halloween costumes and decorations. This partnership comes as the National Retail Federation predicts a decline in Halloween spending this season, with total spending expected to drop from a record $12.2 billion last year to $11.6 billion in 2024 [6].
The collaboration between Uber and Spirit Halloween follows the opening of over 1,500 temporary locations nationwide this season. Customers can now access Spirit Halloween's catalog on the Uber app, with prices remaining the same as in-store [7]. Uber One members can also enjoy free delivery and up to 5% discounts on orders over $35 [1].
Uber has been actively partnering with major retailers to expand its delivery services beyond food. Dollar General and its subsidiary pOpshelf, John Lewis, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Big Lots are among the retailers that have joined forces with Uber for on-demand or scheduled deliveries [1]. The partnership with Spirit Halloween is expected to make costumes and other Halloween essentials more convenient for consumers, particularly for working parents who may need last-minute items [8].
Beryl Sanders, director of U.S. grocery and retail partnerships at Uber, stated that the partnership aims to meet the demand for last-minute Halloween items [8]. Instacart offers same-day delivery service with Kohl's, Sally Beauty, and Costco, while DoorDash has a partnership with Academy Sports and Outdoors for same-day delivery [9]. Uber has also partnered with Lowe's, Michael's, and Party City for on-demand delivery, in addition to Spirit Halloween [9].
Spirit Halloween has announced plans to hire 50,000 seasonal employees this year to support the increased demand for Halloween items [3]. The offer of up to 40% off next order is valid through Halloween for all consumers [2]. Three-quarters of U.S. online shoppers consider free shipping as the most important factor when choosing a retailer, while only one-fifth list same-day or next-day delivery as a key factor [10].
