House GOP Budget Bill Sparks Pollution Fears; BYD Outsells Tesla in Europe

The House GOP's budget bill has sparked controversy, with analysts warning of increased air pollution and energy costs, while Chinese EV giant BYD outpaces Tesla in European sales. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate votes to overturn California's emissions waivers, and Hydro-Quebec's power supply to New England remains limited.

The House GOP's budget bill faces criticism for potentially increasing air pollution and carbon emissions, as well as hiking energy costs. Analysts warn that it could also slow the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and eliminate jobs. The bill aims to curtail incentives for third-party solar agreements, which could tank the stocks of rooftop solar installers relying on this provision.

In a surprising turn, Chinese EV giant BYD sold more vehicles in Europe than Tesla in an entire month. This is notable given the higher tariff rate BYD's cars face compared to Tesla's. The U.S. Senate, meanwhile, voted to overturn three of California's vehicle emissions waivers, allowing the state to set stricter standards than the federal government for cars and heavy-duty trucks.

Hydro-Quebec's power supply to the New England grid remains limited since it first turned off the supply in March. This raises concerns about northeastern states' reliance on energy flow from their northern neighbor. In other news, the New Hampshire state Senate passed a bill laying the groundwork for small modular nuclear development, increasing the limit on low- to moderate-income community solar, and enabling multi-year power purchase agreements.

The House GOP's budget bill could have significant environmental and economic impacts, while the Senate's actions regarding California's emissions waivers and Hydro-Quebec's power supply to New England warrant close monitoring. Meanwhile, the New Hampshire state Senate's bill signals progress in clean energy development.
