HRF Backs 20 Innovative Bitcoin Projects to Empower Users Worldwide
The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is backing innovative Bitcoin projects worldwide, aiming to empower individuals and organisations in repressive environments. HRF's Bitcoin Development Fund allocated 700 million satoshis to 20 projects, focusing on improving Bitcoin's accessibility, usability, and global expansion.
HRF supports prominent Bitcoin Core developers like Jon Atack, Naiyoma, and Daniela Brozzoni to enhance decentralization, privacy, and resilience. One recipient, Tando, a new payment app co-founded by Sabina Gitau, enables 54 million Kenyans to use Bitcoin for daily transactions.
Another project, YakiHonne, a Nostr protocol client, supports freedom of expression and promotes Bitcoin payments in 170 countries. Meanwhile, Unify, a Payjoin wallet, hides transaction histories through collaborative payments. HRF also funds the redesign of the UX/UI for the Bitcoin Core application to bring it to mobile devices, making it more user-friendly. Additionally, Tomatech provides tutoring and training for Bitcoin developers and users in India, fostering a skilled community.
HRF's support for these projects underscores its commitment to ensuring Bitcoin remains accessible and secure, especially for those under authoritarian regimes. By funding innovation and development, HRF is helping Bitcoin reach its full potential as a tool for financial freedom and human rights.
