Hyundai and Genesis Unveil Electrifying Future Plans
Hyundai and its luxury subsidiary, Genesis, have revealed ambitious plans for the future of their automotive lineup, focusing on electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid models, and sustainable logistics solutions.
The announcements were made during Hyundai's Investor Day in New York. One of the key highlights was Hyundai's intention to enter the mid-size pick-up market in North America with a google news model, building on the success of the Santa Cruz. Additionally, the company plans to expand local production in the US to manufacture a significant portion of the vehicles sold domestically by 2030.
In China, Hyundai plans to introduce the Elexio, a locally produced SUV, and a C-segment electric sedan. However, the company did not mention any new specific vehicles for the Chinese or Indian markets in this news. Hyundai is also working on electrified large transporters for the North American market, aiming to expand the range of sustainable logistics solutions.
Genesis, on the other hand, is pursuing an ambitious product offensive. From 2026, all model ranges will offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or battery electric variants. The company also plans to enter international motorsport with its own vehicles from 2026.
The sporty N sub-brand aims to grow to more than seven models by 2030, including the Ioniq 6 N. The Ioniq 6 N is expected to set new standards in the high-performance electric vehicle segment with special temperature management modes and advanced sensors.
By 2027, Hyundai plans to launch vehicles with range extender technology, enabling a range of over 960 kilometers. The range extender vehicles will rely on Hyundai's own battery technology, providing full electric vehicle performance despite low capacity.
Hyundai is also creating its first locally developed electric vehicle for India, which will also benefit from a regional supply chain. By 2030, Hyundai aims to offer over 18 hybrid models, including an enhanced version of the TMED-II hybrid drive in the new Palisade Hybrid.
Particularly in the US, Hyundai aims to enhance flexibility through increased robotics and digital control in its manufacturing process. The first hybrid variants of the Genesis luxury brand are expected to be launched starting in 2026, emphasizing that Hyundai's electrification strategy will include efficient hybrid models alongside pure battery-electric vehicles.
Lastly, the existing Ioniq series will be supplemented by new variants, including the Ioniq 3 specifically developed for Europe. Genesis also plans to enter the high-performance electric vehicle segment with the Ioniq 6 N, setting new standards in the industry.
With these ambitious plans, Hyundai and Genesis are positioning themselves at the forefront of the global automotive industry's shift towards electrification and sustainability.
