New Electric Compact Hatchback: The 2025 Hyundai Inster

The automotive industry is abuzz with the upcoming release of the 2025 Hyundai Inster, a compact electric hatchback that promises to shake up the A-segment car market.

Key Specs and Features

The Inster comes in two main trims: Standard Range and Long Range. The Long Range model boasts an output of 84.5 kW (115 hp) and 147 Nm torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 10.6 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h. Its WLTP range stands at a respectable 355 km, while the Standard Range model offers a more modest 300 km range. Both models feature a 49 kWh battery pack with NMC chemistry and a 310 V nominal voltage.

The Inster supports fast charging, with a max charging rate of 85 kW, allowing it to reach 80-85% charge in approximately 30 minutes on a 150 kW charger. For home charging, it takes around 4-4.5 hours to reach 100% on a 11 kW charger.

Inside, the Inster offers a spacious cabin with a focus on technology. Dual 10.25-inch screens dominate the dashboard, providing a modern infotainment system. Wireless phone charging, 64-color ambient lighting, and ample rear legroom are just a few of the features that make the Inster a practical choice for urban commuters.

Safety and Additional Features

Safety is a top priority for the Inster, as evidenced by its Hyundai Smart Sense suite, which includes forward collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping and lane follow assist, and seven airbags. Other notable features include an EV heat pump for cold-weather efficiency, a battery heater, and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to power external devices.

The Inster also offers a generous warranty package, with 5 years unlimited mileage and an 8-year/100,000 miles battery warranty.

Competitive Comparison

When compared to its rivals, the Fiat 500e, MG4, BYD Dolphin, and GWM Ora, the Inster stands out for its balance between range, charging speed, interior tech, and safety features. While the Fiat 500e offers a sportier drive with more torque, the MG4 provides higher power and range at a higher price point. The BYD Dolphin and Ora offer competitive pricing with similar range but less known driver assistance tech.

Pricing and Availability

The Inster is set to debut in Australia at the start of 2025, with a pricing target below 25,000 euros (around AU$40,000 before on-road costs). Local details, including pricing and features, will be confirmed closer to its launch.
