IBM commits to pouring a staggering $150 billion into the United States economy

IBM, one of America's tech titans, plans a whopping $150 billion investment in the States over the coming five years, aiming to prop up the economy and cement its worldwide supremacy in computing, as revealed by a press release.

Speaking to 'The Claman Countdown', IBM CEO Arvind Krishna shared his ambition for the company: "We're dead set on capitalizing on American brilliance and breakthroughs." This grand plan includes reinforcing U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and mainframe technology, with this research and development (R&D) investment and subsequent manufacturing set to place America at the vanguard of these cutting-edge fields.

IBM originally sprang to life as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company back in 1911 and was later renamed in 1924. According to the company's website, IBM's innovations paved the way for major economic advancements, including the U.S. Social Security system and the Apollo program that made history with a man landing on the moon.

Currently, IBM produces high-performance mainframe computers in Poughkeepsie, New York, which serve as the technological spine supporting a significant portion of global transactions. American industry relies heavily on these domestically manufactured machines, with over 70% of the world’s transactions by value rumbling through IBM's American-made mainframes.

Krishna expressed gratitude for the current administration's support of American ingenuity. "We're putting down this money because we're betting on the economic potential, both domestically and globally," he said. Last week, IBM unveiled its first-quarter 2025 earnings, reporting revenue of $14.5 billion.
