Interchangeable Camera Lenses Introduced to Modular Smartphone by Nothing's CMF, Costing $279

In an ocean of smartphones, Nothing's sub-brand continues to make waves with its sophomore model, the Phone 2 Pro. This little powerhouse promises to deliver unique tech solutions that push boundaries. With a budget-friendly price tag of $279, the Phone 2 Pro is an enticing release that combines style, performance, and modularity without breaking the bank.

A Step Up from the Pack

While slightly higher than its predecessor's price point, the Phone 2 Pro justifies the increase with some significant upgrades. It's the slimmest and lightest device to come from the Nothing family, boasting a sleek 7.8mm thickness and a weight of just 185g (~6.5oz). The Phone 2 Pro also sports the largest display yet, a vibrant 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, capable of blazing 3,000 nits of brightness when needed.

The Modular Marvel

One of the Phone 2 Pro's standout features is its modular setup, a highlight (aside from its price) for any tech enthusiast. Similar to the Phone 1, the Phone 2 Pro promises interchangeable accessories, but with some improvements. Instead of swapping the entire backplate, the 2nd-gen version requires a screw-on universal cover (sadly, sold separately) that serves as a base for additional add-ons. You can attach a handy wallet/kickstand combo, a lanyard for added protection, or our personal favorite, interchangeable camera lenses, including fisheye and macro options.

However, our biggest qualm lies in the lack of availability for these accessories in the United States. Though this may deter many potential buyers, the Phone 2 Pro still delivers impressive results in its core phone capabilities alone.

Capturing the Moment

Nothing clearly focused on photography with the Phone 2 Pro, significantly boosting its photographic capabilities compared to its predecessor. The four-camera system - featuring a 50MP main shooter with a generous 1/1.57′′ sensor, a 50MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom (missing from the Phone 1), an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 16MP selfie camera - captures 64% more light than the Phone 1. The brand's TrueLens Engine 3 handles image processing duties for optimal results.

Although we haven't had hands-on time with the device yet, preview images from the Nothing website suggest it delivers outstanding results for the budget-conscious photographer.

Power to Spare and More

The Phone 2 Pro is packed with the latest hardware, including MediaTek's Dimensity 7300 Pro processor with an 8-core CPU boasting speeds up to 2.5GHz. This combination delivers a claimed 10% faster performance with 5% better graphics power compared to its predecessor. The Phone 2 Pro is also equipped with up to 16GB of RAM (with the RAM booster feature), and an impressive 5,000mAh battery promising a whopping 47 hours of voice calls and 22 hours of YouTube viewing. For storage, the Phone 2 Pro comes with either 128GB or 256GB options, although only the 256GB version is currently available in the U.S.

Other notable features include NFC connectivity for contactless payments and the innovative Essential Space feature, activated via a dedicated side button, that uses AI to organize screenshots and voice notes into an easily accessible hub.

Fuelling Your Curiosity with Accessories

If you're looking to further customize and protect your Phone 2 Pro, several accessories are compatible with the device. While availability in the U.S. may vary, you can find stylish leather sleeves on platforms like Etsy or opt for a camera grip accessible through 3D printable models like those on Printables.com (though you'd need to print it yourself). You can also consider Magsafe compatible cases, available on sites like i-Station, though you might need to confirm shipping to the U.S. Additionally, kickstand and lanyard accessories can be found online or directly from the manufacturer, though U.S. availability may vary.

Alternatively, you can explore a wider selection of cases and accessories on Amazon or Best Buy, designed explicitly for the Nothing Phone 2 Pro. Happy customizing!

The style of the Phone 2 Pro, with its sleek 7.8mm thickness and vibrant 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, sets it apart from other smartphones and gadgets in its price range. Its modular setup, enabled by a universal cover, allows users to attach various accessories such as camera lenses, wallet/kickstand combos, or lanyards, making it a standout choice among tech enthusiasts who appreciate customization.
