New Roewe Longmao PHEV Compact SUV Debuts in China
Roewe, a Chinese automobile brand under SAIC Motor Corporation, is set to introduce a new addition to its lineup with the Roewe Longmao PHEV. This compact SUV, scheduled to debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November, will launch on the Chinese auto market in early Q1 2022.
The Roewe Longmao shares some design elements with the Roewe R-line of electric vehicles, but it stands as a stand-alone PHEV model, based on the Roewe RX3 Pro petrol-powered SUV. The Longmao, meaning Dragon Cat in Chinese, boasts a unique and distinctive appearance that sets it apart from other vehicles in the Roewe lineup.
At its heart, the Roewe Longmao is powered by a PHEV powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor. This combination delivers a total system output of approximately 258 horsepower (about 192 kW), offering a balance of power and fuel efficiency suitable for both city driving and longer trips. The vehicle can reach a maximum speed of around 150 km/h (about 93 mph).
The 1.5-liter petrol engine produces an output of 120 hp, while the output of the electric motor for the Roewe Longmao hasn't been officially announced. However, considering MG's use of various electric motors in their other PHEVs with output ranging from 90 to 125 hp, it's expected that the Longmao will have a similar output range. The combined output of the Longmao will be at least 120 hp.
Two-tone paint will be standard on every Roewe Longmao, adding to its eye-catching design. The Longmao measures 4440/1810/1634 in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2625 millimeters. It weighs in at 1430 kilograms, making it a compact yet robust SUV.
In due time, the RX3 Pro will fully replace the RX3, but for now, both models are sold alongside each other. The Roewe RX3 Pro is a recently launched, facelifted, and more upmarket variant of the RX3, offering a more luxurious driving experience.
Interestingly, the Roewe Longmao is the first Roewe vehicle named after a fictional animal, following ORA, a competitor brand, which started giving cat names to its cars about two years ago. This unique naming convention adds to the mystique of the Roewe Longmao and sets it apart from other vehicles in the market.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Roewe Longmao PHEV as it makes its way to the Chinese auto market in early 2022.
