Jaecoo's electric E5 model boasts a range of 248 miles, priced at £27,505.
The Chinese automotive brand Jaecoo is set to make a splash in the UK market with the arrival of its new electric SUV, the E5. Scheduled for delivery in October, the E5 is poised to challenge established models such as the Peugeot e-2008, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia EV3.
Performance and Charging
The Jaecoo E5 is equipped with a front-wheel-drive electric motor that delivers between 207 PS (153 kW) and 211 PS (156 kW) with 288 Nm torque, depending on the source. This powerhouse propels the SUV from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 7.7 seconds.
Charging the E5 is a breeze, thanks to its 80 kW DC fast charger. A 30-80% refill of the battery can be achieved in just 27 minutes on a DC connection. Moreover, the E5 boasts Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, enabling its battery to power external devices such as laptops or camping equipment.
Key Interior and Technology Features
At the heart of the E5's cabin is a digital-focused cockpit, centred on a 13.2-inch (or 12.3-inch in the Pure trim) touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with 19 functions, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), are available in the Pure trim.
The Luxury trim offers additional amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and an upgraded eight-speaker Sony sound system (vs. six speakers in the Pure).
Practicality
The E5 offers a generous 480 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded down. The SUV's design incorporates aerodynamic elements that aim to improve efficiency while offering approach and departure angles (20 and 30 degrees respectively) useful for light off-road or adventurous usage.
Trim Levels
Two main trims are available in the UK market: the Pure and Luxury. The Pure serves as the basic variant, offering essential digital and driving aids, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, six Sony speakers, and manual front seats. The Luxury trim adds more comfort and luxury features like a panoramic sunroof, powered and climate-controlled front seats, ambient lighting, and an enhanced audio system.
Price
The starting price for the Jaecoo E5 in the UK is approximately £27,505 for the Pure trim and £30,505 for the Luxury trim (on the road). With a range of up to 248 miles between charges, the E5 offers a compelling combination of performance, practicality, and affordability.
In essence, the Jaecoo E5 is a compact, city-friendly electric SUV that strikes a balance between everyday usability and eco-friendly zero-emission driving. Its solid range, fast DC charging, tech-rich interiors, and two trims catering to basic and enhanced comfort preferences make it an attractive option for environmentally-conscious consumers.
